4 Killed in Kathua Cloudburst, Rescue Ops Underway Amid Heavy Rains.

At least four people were killed and several others injured after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district late Saturday night, officials confirmed. Heavy overnight rainfall inundated several areas, cutting off a village and hampering rescue efforts. Relief teams have been deployed, and operations are ongoing.

Leaders Express Condolences
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of lives and damage in Jodh Khad, Juthana, and adjoining areas. “Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured. All necessary assistance will be provided,” the CMO said in a statement.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also conveyed condolences and said he had briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “The tragedy is mind-numbing. Rescue operations by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police and civil administration are in full swing,” he posted on X.

Rail, Highway Infrastructure Damaged
Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the incident damaged a section of the railway track and the national highway near Janglote. The local police station was also affected. “The civilian administration, military and paramilitary are on the ground. The situation is being continuously monitored,” he wrote on X.

Authorities Issue Weather Advisory
The Kathua district administration has urged people to avoid rivers, streams, and hilly or landslide-prone areas as heavy to very heavy rain continues. The J&K UT Disaster Management Authority has warned of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides over the next 48–56 hours across several districts including Kathua, Jammu, Doda, Udhampur, Poonch, and Rajouri.

Residents are advised to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official updates. Emergency helplines have been activated:

DEOC Kathua: 01922-238796

PCR: 9858034100

ERSS (all emergencies): 112

Authorities have assured that rescue and relief measures will continue until all affected families are safe.
