Cloudburst Hits Uttarakhand’s Chamoli and Rudraprayag, Several Missing and Injured.

A cloudburst struck Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts, leaving multiple people missing and injuring several others, while trapping families under debris.

In Dewal’s Mopata area, two people, Tara Singh and his wife, went missing, and Vikram Singh and his wife were injured. Their cowshed also collapsed, burying 15–20 animals. In Rudraprayag, six more people are reported missing.

Rising water levels of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers at their confluence have added to the danger. In Kedarnath valley’s Lawara village, a bridge on the motor road was washed away, and the situation in Chenagad has become critical. River water has entered residential areas, prompting evacuations. Even the Hanuman temple in Rudraprayag has been submerged.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief on X, stating, “In Rudraprayag district’s Basukedar tehsil under Badeth Dungar Tok and Chamoli district’s Dewal area, some families have been trapped due to a cloudburst and debris flow.” He assured that relief and rescue operations are underway on a war footing and that he remains in constant touch with officials for effective rescue measures.

Rudraprayag District Magistrate Prateek Jain told Aaj Tak that heavy rainfall in Basukedar washed away four houses, but confirmed that all residents were safely evacuated.

The heavy rains have also affected Haldwani, where debris from a hillside near Rani Bagh bridge blocked the Haldwani–Bhimtal road, disrupting traffic.

In view of the extreme weather, schools in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Haridwar, and Pithoragarh have been ordered to remain closed today.
