Delhi Man Arrested for Cyber Fraud Attempt Using Baba Siddiqui’s Identity.

Mumbai Police have arrested a man from Delhi for allegedly attempting to commit cyber fraud by fraudulently activating a mobile number in the name of senior politician Baba Siddiqui.

Attempted Fraud Using Forged Identity
The case came to light after a telecom company received an email requesting the reactivation of a mobile number registered under Baba Siddiqui’s name. The email appeared to be sent on behalf of his daughter, Shehzeen Siddique, and included attachments such as Aadhaar, PAN, and GST documents — all of which turned out to be forged. It also carried a fake letterhead from the Siddiqui family’s business.

The email was marked to Dr. Arshiya Siddique as well, which raised suspicions. Upon being alerted, the family verified the documents and quickly realized it was a fraud attempt.

Following this, a complaint was filed at Bandra Police Station based on statements provided by Dr. Arshiya.

Accused Already Facing Cybercrime Charges
Police investigations revealed that the man behind the attempt had prior cybercrime cases registered against him. He was tracked down and arrested in Delhi.

Authorities believe he intended to use the reactivated number to impersonate Siddiqui for financial fraud or identity theft. Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the accused’s network and previous activities.

Background: Siddiqui Family in Spotlight
The incident has drawn additional attention due to its connection with the late Baba Siddiqui, a former Maharashtra minister who had joined the Ajit Pawar-led NCP after resigning from the Congress in 2023.

Baba Siddiqui was tragically killed on October 18 last year after being shot outside his son Zeeshan Siddiqui’s office in Bandra’s Kher Nagar. Three men — Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap, Gurmail Baljit Singh, and Pravin Lonkar — were arrested in connection with the murder.
