“Delhi Capitals Clinch WPL 2026 Eliminator Spot with Narrow Win Over UP Warriorz; MI Exit Tournament”
Delhi Capitals Hold Nerve to Beat UP Warriorz, Book WPL 2026 Eliminator; Mumbai Indians Exit
Delhi Capitals did just enough when it mattered, holding their nerve to chase down 123 and beat UP Warriorz by five wickets, securing a spot in Sunday’s WPL 2026 Eliminator. The win extended DC’s unbroken streak of playoff appearances and confirmed the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, are out of the tournament.
Chase Built on Steady Starts
Chasing a modest target, Delhi looked in control early, thanks to a 73-run stand between Laura Wolvaardt (47 off 36) and Shafali Verma (29). After an early wicket of Lizelle Lee, the duo steadied the innings with composure and smart strokeplay.
But the chase wobbled late: from 84 for one, Delhi slipped to 101 for five, giving UP Warriorz hope of a dramatic comeback. Sophie Ecclestone and Deepti Sharma kept the pressure, picking up key wickets, but it wasn’t enough. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues remained calm, finishing unbeaten on 34 off 18, with young Niki Prasad anchoring the other end to guide Delhi home with eight balls to spare.
Bowling Set the Platform
Earlier, Delhi’s bowlers laid the foundation. Marizanne Kapp (3/30) and Chinelle Henry (2/?) restricted UP Warriorz to 122 for eight. Deepti Sharma top-scored with 24, while Simran Shaikh provided a brief flurry with 22, but regular breakthroughs ensured UPW never built momentum.
What’s Next
Delhi Capitals now face an in-form Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium on Tuesday, aiming for yet another WPL final appearance. Despite not being their most dominant performance, Delhi’s composure under pressure proved enough to keep their title hopes alive.
