Delhi-NCR Rain Alert: Fresh Showers Loom After Waterlogging, Red Alert Issued

Delhi-NCR witnessed another spell of rain on Saturday after intense showers the previous day triggered widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion across the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for parts of Delhi, while several other areas remain under an orange alert. The weather agency has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall at different times on September 5, raising concerns over further waterlogging and disruption.

Delhi-NCR reels under waterlogging

Heavy rain on Friday, coinciding with Janmashtami, inundated several roads across Delhi, Gurugram and neighbouring areas. Traffic movement was severely affected, with long queues reported at several major stretches.

Waterlogging around Indira Gandhi International Airport also disrupted movement near the terminals, creating difficulties for passengers and commuters.

With another spell of rain expected on Saturday, authorities and residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying areas and on waterlogged roads.

Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad could see heavy rain

Independent weather forecaster Navdeep Dahiya has warned of another period of intense rainfall across Delhi-NCR from Saturday afternoon through late evening.

According to his forecast, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad could receive 60-140 mm of rain, while Delhi and Gurugram may record 30-80 mm by midnight.

The forecast suggests that intermittent showers during the first half of the day could intensify later, with heavy downpours between the afternoon and late evening potentially worsening waterlogging.

Parts of Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh could also experience heavy rainfall during the period.

Delhi weather outlook for September 5-10

According to the IMD’s forecast, Delhi is likely to remain generally cloudy with moderate rain on September 5. Temperatures could remain between 25°C and 30°C, with humidity ranging from 70% to 95%.

On September 6, generally cloudy skies are expected with light rain or drizzle. Temperatures may range between 23°C and 32°C, while humidity could remain between 65% and 90%.

From September 7, conditions are expected to become partly cloudy. Temperatures may rise to around 34°C, with the minimum hovering between 24°C and 26°C.

Partly cloudy conditions are likely to continue through September 8-10, with maximum temperatures remaining around 34°C and humidity gradually easing.

The immediate concern, however, remains the possibility of another spell of heavy rain on Saturday, which could add to existing waterlogging and traffic problems across Delhi-NCR.
