Hanuman Ansh has emerged as one of the biggest surprise hits of 2026, turning a modest ₹2 crore investment into an extraordinary box-office success.
The film, inspired by the life and spiritual legacy of Neem Karoli Baba, has continued its strong theatrical run nearly a month after release.
Despite a slow beginning and a dip in momentum during its first two weeks, the film has staged a remarkable turnaround. Even with Mirzapur arriving in theatres on September 4 and Toxic continuing its run, Hanuman Ansh has maintained a strong presence across India.
Hanuman Ansh nears ₹100 crore
By Day 29, the film had collected approximately ₹97.99 crore in India gross, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Made on a reported budget of around ₹2 crore, the film has earned nearly 50 times its production cost.
The movie also delivered an impressive fifth Saturday, collecting around ₹10 crore. Its performance stands out even more when compared with larger productions such as Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which reportedly earned ₹2.7 crore on its fifth Saturday.
Hanuman Ansh is still playing across a significant number of theatres, with around 5,055 shows and an estimated 47% theatre occupancy presence, highlighting the film’s sustained demand.
The film could receive another boost soon. On Thursday, the makers announced that Hanuman Ansh will receive a global theatrical release on September 11, 2026, potentially opening up another market for the surprise hit.
Who was Neem Karoli Baba?
Neem Karoli Baba, also known as Maharaj Ji, was a Hindu spiritual teacher and devotee of Lord Hanuman. His birth name is generally recorded as Lakshman Narayan Sharma, and he was born around 1900 in Akbarpur village in present-day Uttar Pradesh.
He died in Vrindavan on September 11, 1973.
Several stories associated with Neem Karoli Baba involve miracles and extraordinary events recounted by his devotees. Since many of these accounts come from oral traditions and devotees’ recollections, they are best viewed within the spiritual tradition surrounding the revered teacher rather than as independently verified historical events.
