Dhanashree Verma Takes a Humorous Dig at ‘Gold Digger’ Trolls.
Dancer and content creator Dhanashree Verma addressed the online trolling she faced after her divorce from cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal in a lighthearted manner on Ashneer Grover’s reality show Rise And Fall, streaming on Amazon MX Player.
In a promo for an upcoming episode, contestants were paired and asked to choose between a gold bag worth ₹2 lakh and a silver bag worth ₹1 lakh. When paired with actor Arjun Bijlani, who insisted that “diamonds and silver don’t suit me, only gold suits me,” Dhanashree responded with irony:
“I cannot say this line. If I say this line, I won’t even get the love that I am going to get.” Her quip subtly referenced the trolling she endured after her divorce, where she was labeled a “gold digger” online.
Dhanashree has also spoken about her amicable communication with Chahal post-divorce. On Farah Khan’s vlog, she revealed they stay in touch through messages, sharing, “He used to call me maa; he is sweet only.”
Background: Dhanashree and Chahal married in December 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown. Their relationship gradually strained, leading them to live apart in mid-2022 and file for divorce by mutual consent in February 2025. During the final hearing, Chahal sparked controversy by wearing a T-shirt reading “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy”, intensifying online trolling. Reflecting on it, Dhanashree said she was surprised and thought a private message would have sufficed.
Through humor and candidness, Dhanashree has shown she can handle public scrutiny with grace while keeping the narrative on her own terms.
