A day after Diljit Dosanjh’s Satluj was removed from Zee5, the film surfaced on social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), with users sharing clips and claiming to have access to downloaded copies.

The film, which was released on the streaming platform after years of delays, had earlier been titled Punjab 95 before its release under the new name.

Several users on X posted that they had downloaded the film before it was taken down from Zee5. The posts prompted discussions among fans, with some asking whether the film would return to the platform. The movie was removed from Zee5 just two days after its July 3 release, and the reason for its removal has not been officially clarified.

During a recent Instagram Live session, Diljit Dosanjh acknowledged that many fans had managed to download the film before it disappeared from the platform. He expressed happiness that audiences had been able to watch it and encouraged people to continue supporting the film and watch it with their families.

The actor also shared an emotional post on Instagram, suggesting that Satluj had faced challenges similar to those endured by the late human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, whose life inspired the film. “Shaheed Jaswant Singh Khalra Ji… Panjab95 Satluj naal vi oh hee hoyea jo…” he wrote, alongside a clip from the movie, implying that the film had met a fate similar to Khalra’s.

Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj finally premiered on Zee5 on July 3 after spending years in limbo. It remains unclear whether the film will return to the platform.

Based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the film chronicles the activist’s efforts to expose the alleged extrajudicial killings and secret cremations of Sikh youth in Punjab during the 1990s. The project faced prolonged delays after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly sought extensive changes, including around 120 cuts. Khalra was abducted and killed in 1995, and six Punjab Police personnel were later convicted in connection with his abduction and murder.
