Droupadi Murmu on Sunday emphasised the crucial role of women in shaping the future of society and the nation, stating that educated, self-reliant and empowered women are the foundation of a country’s development.
The President made these remarks while addressing the concluding session of a two-day national conference of women thinkers titled “Bharti – Naari Se Narayani” at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The conference, held on March 7 and 8, brought together women leaders, scholars and social thinkers from across India.
In her address, President Murmu highlighted that in Indian tradition, women have always held a position of respect and influence, describing them as symbols of knowledge, strength and prosperity. She noted that women today are making significant strides in fields such as education, science, administration, sports, entrepreneurship and social service.
The President said that true social progress can only be achieved when women enjoy equal opportunities, dignity and security. She stressed the need to ensure that women have the freedom to make decisions, access to quality education and employment, and the ability to live with self-respect.
Murmu also pointed out that the concept of women-led development is gaining momentum in India. Encouraging young girls to pursue their aspirations with confidence, she urged them to actively contribute to the country’s growth and development.
Speaking at the closing session, V. Shanta Kumari, chief of the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, said that women should draw strength from the encouragement they receive from society and use it to enhance their capabilities. She added that staying rooted in Indian culture while taking pride in it can help women inspire others and emerge as role models.
Shivani V., secretary of the Bhartiya Vidvat Parishad, said the conference aimed to strengthen women’s journey from silent strength to decisive leadership. Around 1,500 women thinkers participated in the event, holding discussions on empowerment, leadership, education and self-reliance, with a focus on women-led nation building.
