Ex-Pentagon Official Compares Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir to ‘Osama bin Laden in a Suit,’ Urges US to Ban Him
Former Pentagon official Michael Rubin has sharply condemned Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s recent nuclear threat during his US visit, likening his rhetoric to that of Osama bin Laden.
Rubin remarked, “The Field Marshal’s rhetoric is reminiscent of what we heard from Osama bin Laden,” adding, “Americans often view terrorism through grievances but miss the ideological roots. Asim Munir is Osama bin Laden in a suit.”
Munir had warned at an event in Tampa, Florida, “We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, we’ll take half the world down with us.” Rubin criticized the US military leadership’s response, saying, “The fact that US generals did not walk out of meetings with Munir should be cause for resignation.”
He further called for strong diplomatic action, suggesting Pakistan should lose its status as a major non-NATO ally, be designated a state sponsor of terrorism, and be excluded from US Central Command cooperation. Rubin urged, “Asim Munir should be persona non grata in the USA and barred from American visas until Pakistan explains and apologizes.”
India also condemned Munir’s “nuclear sabre-rattling,” with the Ministry of External Affairs stating that such remarks raise doubts about Pakistan’s nuclear command integrity amid its ties to terrorist groups. India reaffirmed it will not succumb to nuclear blackmail and will take all necessary measures to ensure national security.
