Hockey India on Thursday named the 18-member squad for the FIH Junior Men’s World Cup 2025, scheduled from 28 November to 10 December in Chennai and Madurai.

The squad blends experience with emerging talent, and defender-drag flicker Rohit has been appointed captain following his standout performance at the Sultan of Johor Cup, where India won silver. India have been placed in Pool B alongside Chile, Switzerland and Oman, who replace Pakistan this year.

The team will be coached by former India goalkeeper and legend PR Sreejesh. The goalkeeping duties will be shared by Bikramjit Singh and Princedeep Singh. The defensive unit features skipper Rohit, previous Junior World Cup participant Amir Ali, Anmol Ekka, Talem Priyo Barta, Sunil Palakshappa Bennur and Shardanand Tiwari.

The midfield comprises Ankit Pal, Adrohit Ekka, Thounaojam Ingalemba Luwang, Manmeet Singh and Rosan Kujur. The forward line includes Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, Arshdeep Singh, Ajeet Yadav, Dilraj Singh and Gurjot, who earned his senior debut at the ACT 2024. Ravneet Singh and Rohit Kullu have been named as alternates. Star forward Araijeet Singh Hundal misses the tournament due to a shoulder injury.

Rohit continues in a leadership role after strong recent showings, particularly in penalty-corner routines and defensive organisation at the Sultan of Johor Cup. Amir Ali adds crucial tournament experience, while Gurjot’s exposure with the senior team is expected to bolster India’s attack. The squad’s structure signals a balanced approach between solid defensive play and dynamic forward options.

What Sreejesh Said

Coach Sreejesh said selection focused on experience and adaptability under pressure.

“We have selected a tried-and-tested team with most players having a fair understanding of what it takes to compete at a World Cup. While physical ability, skill and team play were important, one of the key aspects we emphasised was their mental strength to perform under pressure.

“We have had valuable international exposure in the lead-up and also trained extensively with the Senior India team as we are housed together at SAI Bengaluru. Performing well against senior teammates has boosted the boys’ confidence. Overall, we’re an upbeat side and looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd,” he added.
