Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday strongly criticised the United States over its actions against Iran, alleging that Washington was engaging in “hooliganism” and taking “irrational” steps that undermine the sovereignty of nations.

Speaking at the inauguration of the first phase of a government-built township for landslide survivors, Vijayan accused the US of pursuing what he described as “imperialist aggression” against countries it considers hostile. He claimed such actions amount to interference in the internal affairs of sovereign nations and violate the principles of mutual respect in international relations.

The Chief Minister also criticised Israel, calling it a “rogue nation” and a close ally of the US. He alleged that recent attacks against Iran lacked justifiable grounds and claimed that even the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was being targeted.

Drawing a parallel between individuals and nations, Vijayan said that just as people are expected to treat each other with courtesy and respect, countries too must uphold similar standards in global affairs. He argued that no nation can reasonably demand that others adopt identical policies or viewpoints.

According to him, certain states—backed by American military strength, financial power and what he termed a persistent appetite for war—appear to expect compliance from the rest of the world. Questioning the circumstances that led to the alleged attack on Iran, he described the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family members as an extreme act of American imperialism.

Calling the developments deeply disturbing, Vijayan urged people to voice strong protest against such actions.

The Chief Minister further stated that he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking urgent intervention to ensure the safety and security of Indians living in the Middle East amid the escalating regional tensions.
