Iran’s Supreme Leader Reportedly Moved to Underground Bunker Amid Intensifying Conflict with Israel.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reportedly been relocated to an underground bunker in northeastern Tehran, according to a report by Iran International. Citing unnamed sources, the report also stated that members of Khamenei’s immediate family, including his son Mojtaba, have joined him at the secure facility in Lavizan.

The move comes amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran, with both sides trading airstrikes in what is now being described as the most serious confrontation in decades. The conflict has drawn international concern, with world leaders at the G7 summit in Canada warning of the risk of a wider regional war.

Heavy Civilian Toll in Iran

Over four days of sustained Israeli strikes — aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile infrastructure — the Iranian health ministry has reported at least 224 deaths, with approximately 90% of those killed being civilians. The airstrikes have targeted multiple cities, including Tehran and Mashhad.

According to the Iran International report, Khamenei had previously been moved to the same underground facility during prior Israeli military operations, suggesting that such security measures are part of a broader protocol in times of heightened threat.

Mashhad Strike Seen as Warning

A recent Israeli airstrike on the northeastern city of Mashhad is believed to have been a calculated warning to Khamenei, signaling that no location within Iran is beyond Israel’s reach. Citing diplomatic sources, the report claimed Israel had the opportunity to target Khamenei on the first night of strikes but refrained, possibly to pressure Iran into halting its uranium enrichment activities.

Israel Steps Up Offensive

The current escalation began with a surprise Israeli air campaign on Friday that reportedly killed senior Iranian military leaders and damaged nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated with a rare daylight missile attack on Tel Aviv on Sunday, with explosions also reported in Haifa and southern Israel. Civilian areas in cities like Bat Yam experienced direct hits, sparking widespread fear and damage.

Adding to the intrigue, two U.S. officials told Reuters that former President Donald Trump recently vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Khamenei, suggesting a broader strategy to contain the conflict without triggering complete regime collapse.

High-Ranking IRGC Officers Killed

Among those killed in the Israeli strikes was Mohammad Kazemi, the head of intelligence for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), along with his deputy. The semi-official Tasnim News Agency confirmed their deaths following attacks in Tehran.
