PM Modi Thanks Cyprus for Support in Anti-Terror Fight, Calls for Peace Amid West Asia Tensions.

During his first overseas visit since the launch of Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its consistent support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia, PM Modi said, “We are thankful for Cyprus’s continued support in our efforts to combat cross-border terrorism. To curb terrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling, our agencies will work together to develop a mechanism for real-time information exchange.”

The reference was seen as a veiled message aimed at Pakistan, long accused by New Delhi of sponsoring terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.

In addition to security cooperation, the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on regional and global issues. Addressing the escalating conflict in West Asia between Israel and Iran, PM Modi reiterated his now widely quoted message: “This is not an era of war.” He emphasized the need for diplomatic engagement and restraint in the region.

The visit underscores India’s deepening strategic outreach to Mediterranean nations and its broader foreign policy pivot amid shifting geopolitical realities.
