Kharge on Dhankhar’s Resignation: ‘He Was Always on Govt’s Side, Real Reason Known Only to Him and PM Modi’
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday said he had no knowledge of the real reason behind Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, suggesting it was a matter strictly between Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I don’t know the details. He was always on the government’s side. He should clarify what happened,” Kharge said, when asked whether Dhankhar’s exit was linked to his recent remarks perceived as supportive of farmers.
‘Never Gave Us a Voice in Rajya Sabha’
Kharge also criticised Dhankhar’s tenure as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, accusing him of frequently denying the Opposition an opportunity to speak on critical issues.
“When we raised issues related to farmers, the poor, international matters or foreign policy, we were not given a chance. Even notices about atrocities on women, Dalits, and communal violence were ignored,” Kharge said.
He reiterated that the resignation was a matter “between him and Modi,” and that the Congress had no insight into the exact circumstances.
Sudden Exit Triggers Speculation
Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post as Vice President on July 21, citing medical reasons. In a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he stated that he was stepping down with immediate effect to “prioritise health care.” The abrupt resignation has sparked speculation about deeper political reasons behind the move.
Karnataka Congress Leadership Change?
Kharge also declined to comment on possible changes in the Karnataka Congress leadership. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar currently holds dual roles, including that of KPCC president, and internal party voices have been calling for him to relinquish one of the posts.
“All those things cannot be said now. Will speak later,” Kharge said, when asked about the matter.
