Domestic cooking gas consumers will have to pay more for LPG cylinders as oil marketing companies have increased prices by ₹29 per cylinder, effective June 7, 2026.
This marks the second hike in domestic LPG rates in the past three months. Following the revision, the price of a standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up to ₹942 from ₹913, according to news agency PTI, citing industry sources.
Second LPG hike in three months
The latest increase comes amid continued pressure on state-owned fuel retailers due to high global energy prices and rising import costs. Earlier, LPG cylinder prices were raised by ₹60 on March 7 after geopolitical tensions in West Asia pushed up international crude and gas prices.
Industry sources noted that previous revisions were not enough to offset losses incurred on subsidised domestic LPG sales.
Why LPG prices are rising
| Particulars | Price |
|---|---|
| Domestic LPG Price Before Hike | Rs 913 per 14.2-kg cylinder |
| Increase | Rs 29 |
| New Domestic LPG Price | Rs 942 per 14.2-kg cylinder |
Before the latest revision, state-run oil marketing companies were reportedly losing around ₹703 per domestic LPG cylinder sold. Despite recent price adjustments, companies continue to face financial strain due to volatile global crude markets and elevated import costs.
Officials also indicated that the government has so far avoided passing the full burden of international price fluctuations directly to consumers.
Fuel prices under broader pressure
The LPG hike comes alongside a wider increase in fuel costs across the country. Since mid-May, petrol and diesel prices have risen by a cumulative ₹7.50 per litre, while compressed natural gas (CNG) rates have increased by around ₹6 per kg.
According to PTI, oil marketing companies are still selling petrol and diesel below cost, leading to estimated losses of about ₹11 per litre on petrol and ₹33.6 per litre on diesel.
