Minister Bhupender Yadav Calls for Action-Oriented COP30, Focus on Climate Adaptation.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav urged that the upcoming 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the UNFCCC, scheduled for November 10-21 in Belem, Brazil, be a “COP of Adaptation” that turns global climate commitments into tangible solutions.

Speaking at the Pre-COP30 Ministerial Roundtable in Brasilia, Yadav emphasised that COP30 should reaffirm multilateralism, a decade after the Paris Agreement’s adoption, and accelerate actions that directly improve lives. Highlighting adaptation as a key priority, he called for agreement on minimum indicators under the UAE-Belem Work Programme and adoption of the Baku Adaptation Roadmap.

Yadav stressed the importance of increasing public finance for adaptation to unlock additional resources, while cautioning against new mechanisms that could undermine the Paris Agreement. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to equitable, practical climate action aligned with national circumstances.

Citing India’s leadership in initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and International Big Cat Alliance, Yadav said COP30 must showcase multilateral cooperation and deliver real, measurable outcomes for people and the planet.
