Trump Praises Modi, Gestures to Shehbaz Sharif at Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt.

US President Donald Trump on Monday praised India and its Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “a great country with a very good friend” during the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Turning to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who stood behind him, Trump added with a smile, “He is going to help make that happen, right?” — drawing laughter from the visiting leader.

Trump expressed optimism that India and Pakistan would “live very nicely together” and commended Pakistan’s military leadership, stressing that regional peace depends on “good friends doing good things.”

Sharif, speaking immediately after Trump, thanked the US President for defusing potential nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan. “Had it not been for this gentleman and his team, the war could have escalated beyond comprehension,” Sharif said.

India was represented at the summit by MoS for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, acting as PM Narendra Modi’s special envoy. The MEA welcomed the signing of the landmark peace agreement, calling it a step toward lasting regional stability.

PM Modi also praised Trump for his role in the Gaza ceasefire and welcomed the release of 20 hostages held by Hamas for over two years. “Their freedom stands as a tribute to the courage of their families and the unwavering peace efforts of President Trump,” Modi said.

The summit concluded with Trump signing the ceasefire agreement alongside leaders from across the Arab and Muslim world, marking what he called a “new and beautiful day” for the Middle East after years of conflict between Israel and Hamas.
