Mohanlal to Receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 at 71st National Film Awards.

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has been named the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023, the highest honour in Indian cinema. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025.

The Ministry shared the news on X, stating: “On the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to announce that Shri Mohanlal will be conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. Mohanlal’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations!”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the actor, calling him a symbol of “excellence and versatility” whose work spans Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema. “His cinematic and theatrical brilliance across mediums is truly inspiring. Congratulations to him on being conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. May his accomplishments continue to inspire generations to come,” PM Modi wrote.

With a career spanning over four decades and more than 340 films, Mohanlal is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s greatest actors. He has previously won five National Film Awards — two Best Actor honours, a Special Jury Mention, a Special Jury Award, and one Best Feature Film award as a producer.
