NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: Will Old Admit Cards Work? Do Candidates Need To Pay Fees Again? Key FAQs Answered

0

The cancellation of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 after allegations of a paper leak has left lakhs of medical aspirants confused about the next steps.

Students are now asking key questions: Will they have to pay the fee again? Will the syllabus or exam pattern change? Will old admit cards still be valid? Here’s what the National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified so far.

Why Was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?

The NTA cancelled the NEET UG 2026 examination conducted on May 3 after multiple allegations of a paper leak and compromise of exam integrity surfaced.

Investigations by the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) reportedly found that a “guess paper” circulated before the exam closely matched the actual question paper. According to reports, around 120 questions — including 90 from Biology and 30 from Chemistry — were allegedly identical to the final exam.

Following inputs from investigating agencies, the Union government ordered a detailed probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after which the NTA announced the cancellation of the examination.

Will Candidates Have To Pay The Exam Fee Again?

No. The NTA has clarified through a post on X that candidates will not have to pay any additional fee for the re-examination.

Will The Existing Application Fee Be Refunded?

Yes. According to the NTA, the fee already paid by candidates for NEET UG 2026 will be refunded.

Will Students Have To Register Again?

No fresh registration will be required.

The NTA said that all existing application details — including candidature, uploaded documents, and preferred exam centres submitted for the May 2026 exam — will remain valid for the re-test.

Will The Syllabus Change?

No. The syllabus for the re-examination will remain the same as the originally notified NEET UG 2026 syllabus.

Since the re-test is part of the same admission cycle, authorities are not expected to make any academic changes midway through the process.

Will The Exam Pattern Change?

The overall pattern is expected to remain unchanged, including:

Same subjects
Same marking scheme
Same duration
Same number of questions

However, the NTA may tighten security and operational protocols. Possible changes could include stricter frisking, earlier reporting time, enhanced biometric verification, tighter surveillance at centres, and revised paper distribution procedures.

What Happens To The Old Admit Cards?

The old admit cards will no longer be valid.

The NTA has said that fresh admit cards will be issued for the re-examination.

When Will The Re-Exam Be Conducted?

The agency has said that the revised examination date will be announced soon.

Will NEET Counselling And Admissions Be Delayed?

A nationwide re-examination means fresh answer keys, revised results, updated merit lists, and delayed counselling schedules. This could impact:

MBBS admissions
BDS admissions
AYUSH admissions
State counselling rounds
Private medical college admissions

The revised academic calendar will depend on how quickly the re-exam is conducted and evaluated.
