Nitesh Tiwari Clarifies AI Use in Ramayana, Says Human Artists Are Responsible for Dubbing
Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari has clarified the role of artificial intelligence in the multilingual versions of Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, stating that the technology is being used only to synchronise lip movements with dialogue in different languages. He emphasised that the voices heard in the film are recorded by human dubbing artists, addressing speculation about AI-generated performances.
Speaking at the film’s world premiere in Los Angeles, Tiwari explained that the production team aims to make the epic accessible to audiences worldwide in their preferred languages without relying on AI to create the characters’ voices.
Nitesh Tiwari Explains How AI Is Being Used in Ramayana
Addressing questions about the technology, Tiwari said AI has a specific role in adapting the film for international audiences. According to the director, the technology helps match the characters’ lip movements to dialogue in different languages, while trained voice artists perform the dubbing.
“As far as AI is concerned, it’s only being used to lip sync, so that we can present the film to the world in their language. All the voices are dubbed by the artists. AI has only been used to get the lip movement right, so that the audience can enjoy it in their native language. No AI has been used in dubbing, voice is dubbed by real artists only,” Tiwari explained.
His comments distinguish the film’s use of AI-assisted lip synchronisation from AI-generated voices. The approach is intended to help audiences experience the story in their own languages while retaining human performers behind the dialogue.
AI Debate in the Film Industry
The clarification comes as the use of artificial intelligence continues to generate discussion across the entertainment industry. From visual effects and digital production to dubbing and voice replication, emerging technologies are changing how films are created and distributed.
In the case of Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, Tiwari’s explanation focuses on the use of AI to improve lip synchronisation across multiple language versions. He maintained that human voice artists remain responsible for the dubbed performances.
The statement also highlights the production’s effort to balance technological innovation with traditional acting and voice performance as the makers prepare the epic for a global audience.
