Bangladesh Recall Nurul Hasan Sohan and Saif Hassan for Asia Cup 2025
Bangladesh on Saturday named a strong 16-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9. Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan and opener Saif Hassan have been recalled to the side after impressive performances in recent tournaments.
Sohan, who last played for Bangladesh in the 2022 T20 World Cup, earned his place back with consistent outings for Bangladesh A in the Top End T20 series in Darwin, scoring 109 runs in five matches. Saif, who featured in the 2023 Asian Games, also impressed in the same series with 117 runs at a strike rate of 130.
Litton Das will continue to captain the side, having recently led Bangladesh to T20I series wins against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Emon are set to open, while all-rounder Mahedi Hasan has been preferred over Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who remains on standby.
The Tigers’ pace attack features Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin, while spinners Nasum Ahmed, Rishad Hossain and Mahedi Hasan provide variety in the bowling unit. In the middle order, Towhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik and Shamim Hossain will anchor the batting.
Bangladesh begin their campaign on September 11 against Hong Kong at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The team has previously reached the Asia Cup final three times (2012, 2016 and 2018), but finished runners-up on each occasion.
