Pakistan Backs China’s Claim of Mediation During Op Sindoor.

Pakistan has endorsed China’s claim that it played a mediating role in the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict that led to Operation Sindoor.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Chinese leaders were “in constant touch” with Pakistan’s leadership and had also made “certain contacts with the Indian leadership” during May 6–10, and possibly before and after.

“These contacts, characterized by very positive diplomatic exchanges, did help bring down tensions and promote peace and security in the region. I am sure the Chinese characterization of mediation is correct,” Andrabi said.

Timing of Pakistan’s Statement Raises Questions
This is Islamabad’s first acknowledgment of Beijing’s alleged role in brokering the pause in the four-day conflict. Analysts note the statement comes belatedly, as Pakistan had previously credited the suspension of hostilities solely to U.S. President Donald Trump.

India has consistently maintained that the military pause occurred after a request from Pakistan’s DGMO to its Indian counterpart, rejecting claims of third-party mediation. India also dismissed statements by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding Beijing’s involvement.

Andrabi defended Pakistan’s support for China, calling it “diplomacy for peace, prosperity, and security,” and described it as consistent with other international efforts during those critical days.

China’s claim mirrors repeated assertions by U.S. President Trump that Washington played a decisive role in ending the confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
