As India moves ahead with the extradition of wanted gangster Anmol Bishnoi from the United States in connection with the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, his family has appealed to the Centre to ensure his security once he arrives in the country.

On Monday, Anmol’s cousin Ramesh Bishnoi said the family “respects the law” but fears Anmol may be targeted due to his association with his elder brother, jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. “If he is being brought to India, the Government of India should ensure his safety. That will be our only demand,” he said, adding that they trust that the truth will emerge in the investigation.

A senior police officer confirmed on Tuesday that Anmol—also wanted in the April 2024 firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence—is being deported from the US and is expected to land in Delhi on Wednesday. Mumbai Police have submitted two separate extradition requests, and the Union government will decide which agency takes custody first. Multiple cases against him are pending across several states.

Officials said Anmol had been moving between the US and Canada using a forged Russian passport, and had been detained earlier as well. The NIA had previously announced a ₹10 lakh reward for information leading to his arrest.

Anmol’s name had also appeared in the 2022 murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. Reacting to reports of the extradition, NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique, son of Baba Siddique, said he received an email indicating that Anmol had been “removed” from the US. “He should now be brought to India and tried for his crimes,” he said.
