Punjab Kings Chase 220 to Stun Sunrisers Hyderabad Despite Abhishek Sharma Blitz

Fifties from Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya and captain Shreyas Iyer powered Punjab Kings to a commanding six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, as they chased down 220 to extend their unbeaten run in Indian Premier League 2026.

What looked like an SRH-dominated night early on turned into a tale of shifting momentum, as PBKS outplayed them in both the middle overs and the chase.

Travishek blitz lights up Powerplay

For a while, it was all about Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head.

Abhishek came out blazing, tearing into the PBKS attack with fearless strokeplay. He raced to a stunning 18-ball fifty, combining clean hitting with precise shot selection. Head, initially watchful, soon found his rhythm as the duo stitched together a 120-run opening stand.

SRH stormed to 105/0 in six overs — one of the highest Powerplay totals in IPL history — with Abhishek contributing 66 in that phase alone. At 120 without loss in eight overs, a 230-plus total looked inevitable.

Shashank swings the game

The script flipped dramatically thanks to an unlikely hero — Shashank Singh.

After a quiet over to apply the brakes, he returned to dismiss both Head and Abhishek in the same over, breaking the backbone of SRH’s innings. From 120/0, SRH lost direction, managing just 99 runs in the final 12 overs.

Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen couldn’t sustain the tempo, while disciplined death bowling ensured SRH finished on 219 — competitive, but below par given the start.

Shashank’s figures of 2/20 stood out in a 400-plus aggregate contest.

PBKS openers seize control

PBKS responded with equal intent. Arya set the tone immediately, smashing 18 in the first over and never looking back. He brought up a breathtaking 16-ball fifty, dismantling SRH’s plans early.

Prabhsimran complemented him perfectly, using his feet and maintaining tempo as the duo added 99 runs. PBKS reached 93/0 in the Powerplay — slightly behind SRH but firmly in control of the chase.

Even when Arya fell, the damage had been done.

Iyer finishes with authority

A brief SRH fightback came through Shivang Kumar, who removed Arya, Prabhsimran and Cooper Connolly to leave PBKS at 128/3.

But Iyer ensured there was no collapse.

Calm and calculated, he paced the chase perfectly — rotating strike, picking the right bowlers to target, and keeping the required rate under control. A decisive assault, including a 16-run over off Nitish Kumar Reddy, sealed the game.

He brought up a composed half-century before Shashank fittingly finished things off, capping a fine all-round impact.

The difference

PBKS’ ability to control the middle overs proved decisive. While SRH slowed significantly after their explosive start, Punjab maintained momentum throughout the chase.

The win also marked PBKS’ 10th successful chase of a 200-plus total — the most by any team in IPL history — underlining their growing reputation as one of the most dangerous chasing sides in the league.
