Putin Urges Russia’s Aerospace Sector to Advance Rocket Engine Development.

President Vladimir Putin on Friday pressed Russia’s aerospace industry to accelerate work on booster rocket engines, saying the country must maintain its reputation as a leader in space technology while expanding into global markets.

Speaking during a visit to the Kuznetsov engine plant in Samara after trips to China and Vladivostok, Putin said it was vital to “consistently renew production capacity” in rocket engines for future launch vehicles. “We must not only meet our own current and future needs but also move actively on world markets and be successful competitors,” he told industry specialists, according to Russian news agencies.

Putin highlighted Russia’s record of innovation in engine production despite Western sanctions imposed after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. He noted that new energy-sector engines had been developed “in a short period of time” and were already being used in gas transport infrastructure.

Energy exports remain central to Moscow’s strategy. Putin this week promoted the planned Power of Siberia 2 pipeline to China, calling it “mutually beneficial” as Russia seeks to replace lost European markets.

The president also pointed to the development of the PD-26 aircraft engine, which he said would modernize military transport aircraft and enable construction of next-generation wide-bodied civilian planes.

“This is an extremely important theme for our economy and our defense,” Putin said, stressing that aerospace progress underpins both Russia’s space ambitions and its broader industrial resilience.
