Rohit Sharma has been appointed the brand ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026,

Which India and Sri Lanka will co-host from February 7 to March 8. ICC chairman Jay Shah announced the development in Mumbai on Tuesday, where the tournament schedule was also released.

Rohit, who won his maiden T20 World Cup in 2007 under MS Dhoni and captained India to the 2024 title, is the only Indian to have won the trophy twice. He retired from T20Is after India’s triumph last year, along with Virat Kohli.

Calling it a “big privilege,” Rohit said he was honoured to become the first active cricketer to be named an ICC brand ambassador. He expressed hope that India could recreate the magic of the 2024 campaign, even with a new squad.

Reflecting on India’s ICC journey, Rohit said that lifting a global trophy is “extremely challenging,” recalling the 11-year wait between the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2024 T20 World Cup title. Now active only in ODIs, Rohit said he is looking forward to watching the upcoming edition from home, much like he witnessed India’s women claim the ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai.

India will begin their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 in Mumbai against the United States. They face Namibia next in New Delhi on February 12, followed by a marquee clash with Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo. Their final group match will be against the Netherlands on February 18 in Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma has been named the brand ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. The announcement was made by ICC chairman Jay Shah in Mumbai on November 25 alongside the unveiling of the tournament schedule.

Rohit, a member of India’s inaugural T20 World Cup-winning team in 2007 and the captain of the victorious 2024 squad, is the only Indian to have lifted the trophy twice. He retired from T20Is after India’s win in Barbados last year.

The opener said he felt honoured to become the first active cricketer appointed as an ICC brand ambassador and thanked the ICC and Shah for the recognition. He added that he hopes the team can deliver another memorable campaign in 2026.

Speaking about India’s long ICC title drought before the 2024 triumph, Rohit said winning global tournaments remains one of cricket’s toughest challenges. Now focused solely on ODIs, he said he is looking forward to experiencing the upcoming event as a spectator.

India will open their tournament against the USA on February 7 in Mumbai, followed by matches against Namibia on February 12 in New Delhi, Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo, and the Netherlands on February 18 in Ahmedabad.
