Sanchar Saathi Not Compulsory, Says Minister Amid Surveillance Fears

Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday addressed concerns over alleged surveillance linked to the Sanchar Saathi app, asserting that its use is completely voluntary.

He clarified that the app operates only when a user activates it, and can be uninstalled at any time. Dismissing rumours of compulsory installation, Scindia said the government’s responsibility is limited to providing the app as a security tool to help citizens protect their mobile connections.

“Whether to keep it on their devices or not is entirely the user’s decision,” the minister said, reiterating that the app is meant for public safety rather than monitoring.
