Hajj 2026 Bookings Open In Saudi Arabia: 72-Hour Payment Rule, New Cancellation Policies Explained
Saudi Arabia has officially entered the Hajj booking phase for domestic pilgrims, marking an important step in preparations for the annual Islamic pilgrimage. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced that Saudi citizens and expatriates holding valid residency permits can now select and book Hajj packages through the official Nusuk platform.
The move signals the transition from the earlier data registration stage, which began on February 23 (Ramadan 6), to the package selection and payment phase.
What Is Hajj?
Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and represents a sacred obligation that every Muslim who is physically and financially capable must perform at least once in their lifetime.
The pilgrimage takes place annually during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah in Mecca. Over several days, pilgrims perform a series of symbolic rituals that commemorate the faith and trials of Prophet Ibrahim and his family.
Booking Through the Nusuk Platform
Domestic pilgrims who had already submitted their details during the earlier registration phase can now review available Hajj packages and complete bookings through the Nusuk mobile app or its official website.
According to the ministry, the entire process — from package selection to payment — is being conducted digitally to streamline Hajj management and improve transparency.
Pilgrims can browse various package options, choose the one that suits their needs, generate a booking invoice, and complete the payment using SADAD, the Kingdom’s national electronic payment system.
Officials say the digital system helps organize capacity efficiently and ensures fair access to pilgrimage slots.
Strict Payment Deadlines Introduced
To manage demand, the ministry has introduced strict payment timelines for confirmed bookings.
Pilgrims must complete payment within 72 hours of receiving a booking invoice. This rule will remain in effect until Dhul Qada 27 (May 14).
However, starting May 15, the payment window will be shortened significantly. Pilgrims will have only six hours to complete payment after issuing their booking invoice.
Authorities say the tighter deadline is intended to ensure that unused reservations quickly return to the system, giving other applicants an opportunity to secure a place.
If payment is not completed within the specified time, the booking will be automatically cancelled.
Cancellation And Refund Policies
The ministry has also outlined updated cancellation and refund guidelines.
Pilgrims may cancel their booking without any deductions before the official Hajj permit is issued and until Shawwal 30 (April 18).
Once the Hajj permit has been issued, refunds will be subject to deductions, depending on how close the cancellation request is to the pilgrimage period.
Authorities also confirmed that no refunds will be issued for cancellations submitted from Dhul Hijjah 1 (May 18) onward, when the Nusuk platform will close its booking cycle.
Pilgrims Advised To Review Packages Carefully
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has urged applicants to carefully review package details, terms, and conditions before confirming their bookings. Pilgrims are also advised to complete payments within the specified timelines to avoid losing their reservation.
With millions expected to participate in Hajj 2026, Saudi authorities say the digital booking system is designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for domestic pilgrims preparing for one of Islam’s most sacred journeys.
