Shikhar Dhawan has firmly rejected viral claims about his personal life that surfaced shortly.
After his second marriage to Sophie Shine, calling the statements “fabricated” and urging social media users to avoid spreading misinformation.
The controversy began when a post circulated online alleging that Dhawan had said his former wife once told him that no one would marry him after their separation — and that his remarriage was a response to that remark. The former India opener has categorically denied making any such statement.
Taking to social media, Dhawan clarified his stance and expressed disappointment over the spread of what he termed insensitive and false narratives.
“I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past, be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past,” he wrote.
Calling his remarriage a fresh start, he added, “This is a new chapter in my life, and I feel truly grateful for the love and blessings I have received from my fans, friends, family, well-wishers and the media. I strongly urge people not to trade on my name with clickbait, insensitive and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity.”
His measured response drew praise from fans, who appreciated his dignified approach and emphasis on moving forward without negativity.
Dhawan tied the knot with Shine in a private ceremony on February 21 after over a year of dating. The couple had made their relationship public in May 2025 and announced their engagement in January. Shine, an Irish national, works as a product consultant with Northern Trust Corporation and is currently based in the UAE. The two were first spotted together during a Champions Trophy match in Dubai.
Dhawan had previously separated from Aesha Dhawan in October 2023. In August 2024, he announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket, bringing down the curtain on a distinguished career that included 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is. He was instrumental in India’s 2013 Champions Trophy triumph, finishing as the tournament’s highest run-scorer and earning the Player of the Tournament award.
With his latest statement, Dhawan has made it clear that he intends to focus on the present chapter of his life while distancing himself from unfounded speculation.
