Zubeen Garg Death Case: Singapore Sees No Foul Play, Assam SIT Charges Four With Murder.

In the ongoing investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Friday stated that it “suspects no foul play” in the case. The Singapore High Commission in India urged the public to “refrain from spreading unverified information.”

At the same time, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police has filed a 12,000-page chargesheet, naming seven individuals and pressing murder charges against four of them.

A Singapore police statement noted:

“The case is currently under investigation by the SPF in accordance with the Singapore Coroners Act 2010. Based on our investigations so far, we do not suspect foul play in Mr Garg’s death. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will hold a Coroner’s Inquiry scheduled for January–February 2026.”

The Singapore High Commission added:

“The SPF is committed to a thorough and professional investigation into the passing of Mr Zubeen Garg. We urge the public not to speculate or spread unverified information.”

Background
Zubeen Garg had traveled to Singapore to attend the North East India Festival (NEIF), where he died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea on September 19, 2025.

Following his death, the Assam government formed an SIT to investigate. The team submitted its chargesheet to the CJM’s court on December 12.

The chargesheet named seven accused:

  • Shyamkanu Mahanta – NEIF chief organiser

  • Siddhartha Sharma – Garg’s secretary

  • Sandipan Garg – Garg’s cousin and suspended Assam Police officer

  • Nandeswar Bora & Paresh Baishya – Personal Security Officers (PSOs)

  • Shekharjyoti Goswami – Musician

  • Amritprava Mahanta – Singer

Of these, Mahanta, Sharma, Goswami, and Amritprava have been charged with murder. Garg’s cousin, Sandipan Garg, faces culpable homicide not amounting to murder, while the two PSOs have been charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust over misappropriation of entrusted funds or property.
