The Trial Season 2 Review: Kajol Shines, But Cinematography Overshadows Story.
Kajol returns as Noyonika Sengupta in The Trial Season 2, continuing her journey from a hesitant lawyer to a confident, high-profile attorney. This season sees her balancing complex cases with personal turmoil, including her crumbling marriage and her husband Rajiv’s (Jisshu Sengupta) political comeback. The plot centers around Noyonika defending a massage therapist accused of sexual assault, navigating a web of power, truth, and justice, while risking her career in the process.
The cast remains strong, with Jisshu Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Sheeba Chaddha, Kubbra Sait, Gaurav Pandey, Sonali Kulkarni, and newcomer Karanvir Sharma joining as Noyonika’s partner Param Manjal. Sheeba Chaddha and Sonali Kulkarni bring depth and versatility, giving the supporting characters room to shine.
Kajol, however, dominates the screen. Her star power and movie aura are undeniable, but at times it overshadows her character, reminding viewers of her Bollywood presence more than her OTT persona. Despite this, her performance is compelling, capturing Noyonika’s grit, determination, and emotional vulnerability.
On the technical side, the show’s cinematography is both a strength and a distraction. Beautifully shot with professional bokeh effects, it often isolates characters from their surroundings, making it harder to form a personal connection with them. While visually striking, the focus on style occasionally comes at the expense of the story’s emotional depth.
In summary, The Trial Season 2 succeeds largely on the strength of Kajol’s performance and a talented supporting cast, but its heavy-handed cinematography and predictable plot hold it back from being a truly immersive OTT experience.
