Trump Orders Secret Service Probe Into ‘Sinister’ UN Mishaps.
US President Donald Trump has alleged that a series of technical glitches at the United Nations were deliberate acts of sabotage, announcing that the Secret Service will investigate the incidents.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump described a “REAL DISGRACE” at the UN, citing three separate events during his visit that he claimed were “very sinister.”
The first incident involved the escalator to the Main Speaking Floor, which abruptly stopped. “It’s amazing that Melania and I didn’t fall forward onto the sharp edges of these steel steps, face first. It was only that we were each holding the handrail tightly or it would have been a disaster,” he said, calling it “absolute sabotage.” He also referenced a London Times report that UN staff had previously joked about turning off an escalator.
Trump also said his teleprompter failed during his address to world leaders, going “stone cold dark” before kicking in 15 minutes later. He praised his own improvisation during the speech, which he said received “fantastic reviews.”
Finally, he claimed the auditorium’s sound system malfunctioned, making it difficult for leaders to hear him without interpreter earpieces. “The first person I saw at the conclusion of the speech was Melania. She said, ‘I couldn’t hear a word you said.’ This wasn’t a coincidence, this was triple sabotage at the UN,” Trump asserted.
Trump said he will send a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres demanding an immediate investigation and that all security footage, especially related to the escalator, be preserved.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said an initial inquiry suggested a videographer from the US delegation may have “inadvertently triggered the safety function” on the escalator.
However, Trump and his officials have rejected the UN explanation, suggesting a possible wider conspiracy. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the incident “unacceptable” and said anyone responsible for intentionally stopping the escalator should be “fired and investigated immediately.”
