Trump Urges Netflix to Remove Former Obama Official from Board

US President Donald Trump has called on Netflix to remove board member Susan Rice, warning the streaming company it would “pay the consequences” if it failed to act.

Trump’s remarks came after Rice suggested that corporations aligning themselves too closely with him could face repercussions if Democrats return to power. Speaking on a podcast, Rice argued that companies, media organisations and law firms that “take a knee” to Trump may find their decisions politically costly in the future.

“They’re going to be held accountable,” Rice said, adding that Democrats would not necessarily “play by the old rules” if they regain control.

Rice previously served as national security adviser and US ambassador to the United Nations under former President Barack Obama. She later held a senior domestic policy role in the White House of Joe Biden before rejoining Netflix’s board in 2023.

In a social media post, Trump demanded that Netflix “fire her or else,” though he did not specify what actions the company might face. He has previously criticised major networks over programming and coverage he views as hostile.

The comments come as Netflix navigates a competitive media landscape, including reported deal-making activity involving major studios. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The exchange highlights escalating political tensions between prominent corporate leaders and national political figures, particularly as the US heads toward another high-stakes election cycle.
