The Bengaluru Police have arrested two men for allegedly posting obscene and derogatory content on social media targeting Vijayalakshmi, the wife of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa.
The arrests were made following a complaint filed by Vijayalakshmi at the Cyber Crime Police Station on December 24, in which she alleged sustained online abuse directed at her and her family across multiple social media platforms.
According to police, the complainant stated that several users had circulated offensive, defamatory and abusive posts, describing the content as “low-level obscene and derogatory”. She had sought legal action against more than 18 individuals allegedly involved in spreading such material.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered and cyber crime officials began analysing digital evidence and social media activity linked to the posts. The investigation led to the identification of two alleged offenders.
The accused have been identified as Chandrashekar B (45), an autorickshaw driver from Chikkabanavara in Bengaluru, and Nithin (31), a software engineer from Davanagere. Police said both were taken into custody after investigators confirmed their involvement in sharing offensive content online.
In a statement, city police said, “During the investigation, it was found that the accused had posted obscene and abusive messages against Mrs. Vijayalakshmi and her family on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. Both individuals have been secured and further investigation is under process.”
A senior police officer said efforts are ongoing to identify and trace the remaining individuals named in the complaint, with authorities continuing to analyse digital footprints and online activity connected to the case.
Darshan Thoogudeepa is currently facing trial in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy.
