UK MP Bob Blackman Tables Motion in Support of India’s Sovereignty Over Jammu and Kashmir.

British Conservative MP Bob Blackman, who represents Harrow East, has introduced an Early Day Motion (EDM) in the UK House of Commons reaffirming India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over Jammu and Kashmir. The motion was introduced on Jammu and Kashmir Accession Day and co-signed by Jim Shannon, MP from the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

The motion underscores India’s lawful sovereignty over the region, noting the Instrument of Accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947, through which Jammu and Kashmir formally acceded to India.

According to the text of the motion, the House of Commons “notes the continued observance on 26 October of Jammu and Kashmir Accession Day by residents of the United Kingdom of Jammu and Kashmiri heritage.” It also reaffirms support for India’s unity and expresses sympathy for victims of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, including those affected by the Pahalgam attack.

The motion further commends peaceful commemorations in the UK that foster historical awareness, cultural understanding, and community harmony, while urging respect for international norms and sovereign boundaries in all discussions related to Jammu and Kashmir.
