Murder Over a Hard Disk: Delhi Woman, Ex-Boyfriend Arrested After Civil Services Aspirant Found Dead.
The murder of a 32-year-old civil services aspirant in Delhi’s Timarpur area earlier this month has taken a disturbing turn, with police uncovering that a hard disk at the centre of the crime contained private videos of at least 15 women.
The charred body of the victim, Ram Kesh Meena, was discovered on October 6 after a fire broke out in his flat. Initial suspicions of an accidental gas leak were overturned when investigators found evidence of a planned murder.
Police later arrested Amrita Chauhan, Meena’s 21-year-old live-in partner, along with her ex-boyfriend Sumit Kashyap and their associate Sandeep Kumar, for allegedly killing Meena and setting the flat ablaze to cover up the crime.
The Motive
According to police, Amrita confessed that she orchestrated the murder after discovering that Meena had secretly recorded her private videos and refused to delete them. The hard disk containing those videos became the key motive behind the killing.
Investigators have since recovered the device and found intimate visuals of several other women, believed to have been filmed without consent. Police suspect Meena had a disturbing obsession with recording and storing such content.
The Crime and Cover-Up
On the night of October 5, Sumit and Sandeep allegedly attacked and strangled Meena to death. They then doused his body with oil, ghee, and wine before igniting the flat using an LPG cylinder to simulate an accidental explosion.
Their plan was foiled when CCTV footage revealed masked individuals entering the building that night — one of them later identified as Amrita.
Arrests and Investigation
Amrita went into hiding after the incident but was caught on October 18. Her confession led to the arrest of Sumit and Sandeep within the following days.
Police say Amrita, a forensic science student, used her academic knowledge to plan the crime and conceal evidence. Sumit, who worked in LPG distribution, handled the explosion setup.
Digital Evidence and Legal Implications
Authorities confirmed that Meena’s hard disk contained explicit visuals of at least 15 women. While no additional complaints have been filed yet, police said the material violates provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Section 77) and the Information Technology Act, which criminalise voyeurism and unauthorised recording or dissemination of private content.
Special Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav said investigators are proceeding carefully due to the sensitive nature of the material and to avoid causing stigma to the women involved.
