Unnao Rape Survivor Seeks Rahul Gandhi’s Help for Lawyer, Relocation, and Livelihood.
The Unnao rape survivor and her mother met Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, receiving assurances of support in their fight for justice and personal safety.
The meeting took place at Congress MP Sonia Gandhi’s residence at 10, Janpath Road in Delhi. The survivor’s family presented three key requests to Rahul Gandhi, focusing on their ongoing legal battle, security concerns, and livelihood.
Legal Support
The survivor sought help in securing a top lawyer to represent her in the Supreme Court against former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who has been convicted in the rape case but has challenged his sentence. Rahul Gandhi assured the family that he would facilitate the necessary legal assistance.
Relocation for Safety
Fearing for their security, the family requested assistance in relocating to a Congress-ruled state. Rahul Gandhi promised to help ensure their protection by facilitating the move.
Livelihood Assistance
The survivor’s husband also sought support in obtaining a better job to sustain the family, which Rahul Gandhi assured would be looked into.
Political Support
Congress sources confirmed that both Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi committed to doing everything possible to uphold justice, security, and dignity for the survivor and her family.
The meeting comes after the Delhi High Court granted relief to Sengar, suspending his jail term while he appeals his conviction. The court ordered Sengar to furnish a personal bond of Rs 15 lakh with three sureties of the same amount.
Earlier, the survivor and her mother faced difficulties while protesting at India Gate against the High Court decision, with security personnel reportedly stopping them and preventing them from addressing the media at Mandi House.
