Veer Bal Diwas 2025: Honouring the Courage of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Sahibzadas.

Veer Bal Diwas, observed every year on December 26, pays tribute to the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of the four Sahibzadas, the sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru. The day celebrates their unwavering faith, moral courage, and commitment to truth and dharma even in the face of extreme adversity.

The Legacy of the Sahibzadas

The four sons—Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh—remain timeless symbols of courage and righteousness. While the elder sons attained martyrdom on the battlefield, the younger Sahibzadas, aged just 6 and 9, were captured by Mughal forces during the siege of Anandpur Sahib. Offered safety if they renounced their faith, they refused to compromise their beliefs, and were bricked alive, becoming enduring icons of devotion and bravery.

Significance of December 26

December 26 specifically commemorates the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, serving as a reminder of the supreme courage displayed by children in the face of oppression. Veer Bal Diwas is a national occasion to reflect on values such as integrity, devotion to truth, and fearlessness.

Celebrating Veer Bal Diwas

Across India and among Sikh communities worldwide, the day is marked with reverence and cultural observances:

Gurudwaras conduct prayers, kirtans, and recitations from the Guru Granth Sahib.

Schools and institutions hold storytelling sessions, exhibitions, and discussions to educate the young about the Sahibzadas’ legacy.

Cultural programmes and stage performances portray the lives of the four sons, inspiring new generations.

Individuals reflect on ideals of compassion, courage, and service to humanity.

In 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Veer Bal Diwas observance in New Delhi, highlighting the importance of children in shaping the nation’s future. He also launched the Suposhit Panchayat Abhiyaan, aimed at improving community nutrition and engagement. The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar was conferred on 17 children for exceptional achievements, further reinforcing the spirit of excellence and courage associated with the day.

Veer Bal Diwas is more than a commemoration of Sikh history—it is a national symbol of resilience, bravery, and moral strength, reminding all of the power of conviction and sacrifice.
