TVK Chief Vijay Writes to Karur Stampede Victims’ Families, Confirms Rs 20 Lakh Compensation.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor-turned-politician Vijay on Saturday expressed his condolences and support to the families affected by last month’s tragic stampede in Karur. In a heartfelt letter, he conveyed the shared grief of himself and the TVK community.

“We are suffering from the loss of our family members in the unbearable incident in Karur. We assure you that we will be there to comfort and support you in every way,” he wrote.

Vijay also reaffirmed his earlier commitment made during a video call with the victims’ families, stating that he is seeking legal permission for an in-person meeting. “Once permission is received, we will definitely meet,” he added.

The letter confirmed the transfer of Rs 20 lakh to each victim’s next of kin, following an earlier announcement on September 28. “We kindly request you to accept it as our helping hand,” the letter read, ending with a message of hope: “With the grace of God, we will get through this difficult time.”

Earlier today, TVK announced that Rs 20 lakh each had been credited to the families of 39 victims, totalling Rs 7.8 crore, via social media. The party also plans to support the families long-term, offering assistance in education and employment.

About the Karur Stampede
The tragedy occurred during a political rally led by Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu, where tens of thousands of supporters gathered, far exceeding the 10,000-person limit allowed by police. Vijay arrived nearly six hours late, escalating the crowd’s restlessness. As he began his speech, a surge toward the stage caused barricades to break and triggered the stampede.

Many injured were rushed to hospitals, some in critical condition. Following the incident, Vijay announced the Rs 20 lakh compensation for each family affected.
