Visakhapatnam Schoolboy Death: Teacher Allegedly Slaps 6-Year-Old, Police Probe Underway

A six-year-old LKG student died under mysterious circumstances at a private school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday, after his family alleged that a teacher assaulted him over incomplete homework.

According to the child’s family, the boy became frightened after the alleged assault, began crying and coughing, and later collapsed at the school. His family has claimed that he was brought to a hospital in a dead condition. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been established, with the post-mortem report awaited.

CCTV footage from the school, which is being examined by police, appears to show the teacher scolding the child. The boy can then be seen crying and moving his hands as though pleading with her. The teacher subsequently adjusts his clothes before allegedly slapping him.

Moments later, the child collapses into the teacher’s lap. She appears to try to lift him while remaining seated, but he does not respond.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers are questioning people present at the school and examining the CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The family has demanded strict action against both the teacher and the school management. The boy’s father alleged that the school did not contact him after the incident and that he learned about his son’s condition from local cooks who worked at his brother-in-law’s premises.

The father also rejected suggestions that the child had been unwell before leaving for school that morning.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which provides for a police inquiry into deaths occurring under suspicious or unnatural circumstances.

Andhra Pradesh Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh expressed condolences over the child’s death and said the government would take legal action against those responsible.

“It is heartbreaking to see a six-year-old lose his life after allegedly being beaten by a teacher,” Lokesh said, assuring the family that action would be taken against the alleged culprits and the school management.

The cause of death will be established after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.
