Team India kicked off their preparations for the upcoming Test series against England with a stirring team talk from newly appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill. The squad, now complete after the conclusion of the India A vs England Lions series, assembled for a practice session that set the tone for the tour.

Gambhir, addressing the team in a pre-training huddle, welcomed the recent additions Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh. He also acknowledged the return of Karun Nair and congratulated Gill on taking over as Test captain.

In his message to the players, Gambhir offered two perspectives on the upcoming challenge — either view it as a tour missing stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin, or embrace it as a golden chance to create something extraordinary.

“There are two ways of looking at this tour. One is that we are without three of our most experienced players, or we’ve got this phenomenal opportunity to do something special for the country,” said Gambhir.

“When I look around this squad, I see hunger, passion, and commitment. If we make sacrifices, step out of our comfort zones, and fight not just every day but every session, every hour, every ball — we can make this a memorable tour. Start that from today. Enjoy playing for the country. There’s no greater honour.”

Captain Shubman Gill echoed those sentiments, urging the team to treat every net session with intent and purpose. He emphasized the importance of simulating match pressure during training to be better prepared for the real challenge.

“Let’s make every net session meaningful. Put yourself under a bit of pressure, and don’t just go out there to survive,” Gill told his teammates.

“Let’s use practice to discover our game — to understand how we’ll respond when we’re under pressure, whether you’re a bowler or a batter. Play every ball with purpose.”

India’s five-match Test series against England begins on June 20. The squad, largely composed of emerging talents, will be looking to prove their mettle in the absence of senior players, aiming to script a new chapter in Indian cricket under Gill and Gambhir’s leadership.
