Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished President Droupadi Murmu on her 67th birthday, praising her inspiring journey and steadfast commitment to public service.

May she be blessed with a long and healthy life in service of the people.”

President Murmu, who assumed office as the 15th President of India on July 25, 2022, is the country’s first tribal woman to hold the post. She previously served as Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021, earning praise for upholding constitutional values and advocating for tribal rights.

Born on June 20, 1958, in Uparbeda village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, Murmu belongs to the Santhal tribal community. Despite early personal hardships, she became the first woman from her village to pursue higher education, earning a BA degree from Ramadevi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar.

Her career began as a junior assistant in the Odisha government’s Irrigation and Power Department (1979–1983). She later served as an honorary teacher at the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre in Rairangpur from 1994 to 1997.

Known for her humility and commitment to grassroots development, President Murmu has consistently worked to empower underprivileged communities and deepen democratic values in Indian society.
