Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, known for his biting political satire, has responded.

With characteristic wit after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta warned that he could perform in the capital “at his own risk.” The remarks were made during an event hosted by The Indian Express, where Gupta was asked whether comedians like Kamra would be welcome to perform in Delhi, even if their acts included political commentary on the Prime Minister or other public figures.

Gupta replied, “He can come at his own risk. The people of Delhi will listen to him.”

Pressed further on whether such a statement was appropriate coming from a chief minister, Gupta added, “Right, you come, I will welcome you.”

Kamra later reacted to the exchange with a satirical jab, suggesting on social media that Delhi’s tourism campaign should adopt the tagline: “Come at your own risk.”

Background: Kamra’s Recent Controversy
Kamra recently found himself at the center of a political storm after referring to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor) in a satirical remix of a popular Hindi song. The reference alluded to Shinde’s 2022 defection from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, which led to the fall of the Maharashtra government.

The video, titled ‘Naya Bharat’, was recorded in February and uploaded to Kamra’s YouTube channel on March 23. It drew strong condemnation from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leaders, who demanded a public apology.

The situation escalated when Yuva Sena members vandalized the Habitat venue in Mumbai, where the show was filmed. Kamra, while refusing to apologize, expressed his willingness to cooperate with law enforcement.

According to Mumbai Police, three separate complaints have been filed against the comedian — one by the Mayor of Jalgaon and two others by individuals from Nashik, leading to formal cases at Khar police station.

Political Tensions and Past Clashes
Kamra has had previous run-ins with the political establishment, particularly with the BJP-led Centre. In both 2019 and 2024, he publicly supported Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s campaigns in northeast Delhi against BJP’s Manoj Tiwari through crowdfunding contributions.

Despite mounting criticism, Kamra has continued to perform political satire unapologetically — now using Delhi CM’s remarks as material for yet another punchline.
