Microsoft to Lay Off Over 9,000 Employees in Major Workforce Reduction.
Microsoft is set to lay off approximately 9,100 employees — about 4% of its global workforce — marking the company’s largest round of job cuts since 2023, according to a report by The Seattle Times on Wednesday.
The company, which employed around 228,000 people globally as of June 2024, has not yet issued an official statement in response to media inquiries, including a request from Reuters.
The layoffs, expected to impact several departments, are reportedly concentrated in the company’s sales division, as per a Bloomberg News report from June. These latest cuts follow an earlier round in May that saw roughly 6,000 jobs eliminated.
Microsoft’s move is part of a broader wave of layoffs sweeping across Corporate America, as firms across various sectors look to reduce costs and restructure in response to persistent economic uncertainty — a trend that mirrors similar downsizing efforts seen throughout last year.
