Hasin Jahan Wins Alimony Battle as Court Orders Mohammed Shami to Pay ₹4 Lakh Monthly.
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has been directed by the Calcutta High Court to pay a total of ₹4 lakh in monthly alimony to his estranged wife Hasin Jahan and their daughter. The ruling marks a significant development in the high-profile legal battle that has been ongoing since 2018.
Jahan’s lawyer, Imtiaz Ahmed, confirmed the decision on Wednesday, stating that the court ordered ₹1.5 lakh per month for Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for the couple’s daughter. Speaking to ANI, he said, “It was the best moment for Hasin Jahan. She had been running from pillar to post since 2018. This judgment is a step toward justice.”
The order was issued on July 1 by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, who noted that the amounts were “just, fair, and reasonable to ensure financial stability” for both mother and child.
The case reached the High Court after Jahan challenged a 2023 district sessions court ruling that had awarded her ₹50,000 and her daughter ₹80,000 per month. Jahan had originally sought ₹7 lakh for herself and ₹3 lakh for her daughter.
In addition to the alimony ruling, the court instructed the trial court to conclude the pending application related to interim maintenance within six months. According to Ahmed, the final maintenance amount could be increased to ₹6 lakh or more during the trial, based on Jahan’s original claim.
Background
Hasin Jahan, a former model and cheerleader for Kolkata Knight Riders, married Shami in 2014. Their daughter was born in 2015.
In 2018, Jahan filed multiple allegations against Shami, including domestic violence, dowry harassment, and even match-fixing. She alleged that the cricketer had accepted money from a Pakistani woman and had cut off financial support for her and their daughter.
These accusations led the BCCI to temporarily withhold Shami’s central contract, though the board later cleared him of the match-fixing charges after an internal probe.
