36 Amarnath Pilgrims Injured in Bus Collision at Chanderkot in J&K’s Ramban District.
At least 36 pilgrims were injured on Saturday when the last bus of the Pahalgam-bound Amarnath Yatra convoy lost control and rammed into several stranded vehicles near the Chanderkot Langer site in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, officials said.
The accident involved four buses from the Yatra convoy, which sustained varying degrees of damage. Prompt response from the police and health department teams already stationed nearby ensured that the injured were immediately shifted to District Hospital Ramban for treatment.
Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Mohammad Aiyaz, confirmed the details on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “The last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and hit stranded vehicles at the Chanderkot Langer site, damaging 4 vehicles and causing minor injuries to 36 Yatris. The District Administration, already present at the site, immediately shifted the injured to DH Ramban…The Yatris were later shifted to other vehicles for their onward journey.”
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also commented on the situation, reassuring the public: “36 pilgrims sustained minor injuries, which are being attended at District Hospital Ramban. There is no reason for concern. All arrangements for the pilgrims are in place and being constantly supervised by the administration.”
The Amarnath Yatra, a significant annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-metre-high cave shrine in the Himalayas, commenced on July 3 and will continue until August 9. Pilgrims access the shrine via two routes — the longer, traditional Pahalgam route, or the shorter Baltal route.
Meanwhile, another batch of 6,979 pilgrims left Jammu on Saturday for the Kashmir Valley in two escorted convoys. Of these, 2,753 pilgrims are heading toward the Baltal base camp and 4,226 to the Nunwan (Pahalgam) base. Over 26,800 pilgrims have already completed their ‘darshan’ at the shrine since the Yatra began.
