Gill, Pant and Akash Deep Power India into Commanding Position on Day 4 at Edgbaston.

India took full control of the second Test on Day 4 against England, with captain Shubman Gill continuing his dream run and Akash Deep delivering a fiery opening spell with the ball, leaving the hosts struggling heading into the final day.

Starting at 64/1 with a lead of 244, India lost Karun Nair and KL Rahul early in testing conditions. However, the dismissal of both set the stage for a game-changing partnership between Gill and Rishabh Pant.

Pant, aggressive from the outset, smashed a quickfire 65 off 58 balls, while Gill steadied the innings before shifting gears. The duo added 110 runs in just 103 deliveries, taking India’s lead past 400 by lunch. After Pant’s dismissal, Gill partnered with Ravindra Jadeja to extend the innings further.

Gill, who had already scored a brilliant 269 in the first innings, made history by becoming the first batter to score a double century and a 150+ score in the same Test match. His eventual 161 anchored India to a massive lead before the team declared at 672/5, setting England a target of 608 runs.

In reply, England faltered early. Though Ben Duckett started positively, he and Zak Crawley fell cheaply, with Akash Deep striking twice to remove Duckett and Joe Root. The visitors closed the day at 72/3, still needing 536 runs, with Ollie Pope (24)* and Harry Brook (15)* at the crease.

India head into Day 5 firmly on top, eyeing a comprehensive win at Edgbaston.
