PM Modi Launches Amrit Bharat Trains and Unveils ₹7,200 Cr Development Push in Bihar Ahead of Polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a key visit to Bihar’s Motihari on Friday, flagged off four Amrit Bharat trains and unveiled infrastructure and development projects worth over ₹7,200 crore. The high-profile event comes months ahead of the state’s Assembly elections, setting the stage for a political and developmental pitch in the heartland.

New Train Services to Boost Connectivity
The four Amrit Bharat trains will enhance rail connectivity between major cities:

Rajendra Nagar Terminal (Patna)–New Delhi

Bapudham Motihari–Delhi (Anand Vihar Terminal)

Darbhanga–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar)

Malda Town–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) via Bhagalpur

Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated major railway infrastructure projects including:

Automatic signalling between Samastipur–Bachhwara and Bhatni–Chhapra Gramin

Doubling of rail lines on Darbhanga–Thalwara and Samastipur–Rambhadrapur

Patliputra Vande Bharat maintenance facility

Doubling of Darbhanga–Narkatiaganj section (₹4,080 crore project)

These initiatives are expected to enhance operational efficiency, reduce delays, and increase freight and passenger capacity in North Bihar.

Push for Rural Development and Women Empowerment
The PM also distributed ₹160 crore to over 40,000 beneficiaries under the PM Awas Yojana–Gramin and conducted Griha Pravesh ceremonies for 12,000 beneficiaries.

In another move aimed at empowering women, over ₹400 crore was released to 61,500 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM). PM Modi underlined the government’s commitment to women-led development, stating that over 10 crore women have been connected to SHGs nationwide.

Political Context Ahead of Elections
The Prime Minister’s visit and the scale of announcements are being closely watched in the political context, with Bihar headed for Assembly elections later this year. The ruling NDA—comprising BJP, JD(U), and LJP—currently holds a majority with 131 seats in the 243-member House.

The Opposition INDIA bloc, led by RJD and joined by Congress and Left parties, is aiming to unseat the Nitish Kumar-led alliance. The Election Commission is yet to announce official polling dates.

As Bihar gears up for a crucial electoral battle, Friday’s development push may well set the tone for what promises to be a high-stakes contest.
