‘Saiyaara’ Shines on Day 2, Nears ₹50 Crore Without Star Power or Hype.

Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is turning out to be the biggest surprise hit of the year. Featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the romantic drama is rewriting the rules for debut-led cinema, collecting an impressive ₹48.25 crore in just two days.

After a strong ₹22 crore opening, Saiyaara picked up further momentum on Saturday with ₹26.25 crore, putting it on track to cross the ₹50 crore mark by the end of its opening weekend.

What makes this performance exceptional is how the film is outperforming star-driven projects. It has already surpassed the opening numbers of Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik, Shahid Kapoor’s Deva, and Kajol’s Maa. Even nostalgic re-releases like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Sanam Teri Kasam failed to match its box office pull.

Without a heavy promotional campaign, the film has relied purely on content and word-of-mouth. Suri kept the lead cast under wraps pre-release—similar to his approach with Aashiqui 2—and the gamble has paid off once again.

Ahaan Panday’s confident debut and Aneet Padda’s nuanced performance have struck a chord with audiences, especially younger viewers. The film recorded a solid 51.24% occupancy for Hindi shows on Saturday, signaling strong footfall and staying power.

At a time when even star kids struggle to draw crowds—Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan’s Loveyaapa ended with ₹6.8 crore—Saiyaara stands tall. Even Alia Bhatt’s Jigra, backed by big marketing and star power, earned ₹30 crore over two days—well behind Saiyaara’s tally.

Backed by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara is winning on the strength of its story, emotion, and music. In a crowded box office landscape, it’s proving that heartfelt storytelling and new talent can still deliver magic—no gimmicks required.
